Many tell us that stamped steel top plates are just fine. And, while yes they are slightly cheaper, they also have some drawbacks. We know that over time, they can bend or flex. It's the nature of a "stamped" product. It's already stretched in the stamping process. It starts out as a flat piece of steel and is then stamped to shape it. So, structurely it can be deformed or stretched thin. After use and thousands of people pushing up and off their chairs, these top plates begin to bend or flex and you'll find yourself with a wobbly table top.
Center columns made from 18-gauge may seem strong and sturdy, but when you're talking about gauged steel, you have to understand that the smaller the number, the stronger the steel; so, 16-gauge steel is stronger than 18-gauge. JI Bases uses only 16-gauge steel that is cut square to exacting specifications. If columns are not cut square on either the top or bottom, they can wiggle, or not "pull tight" into the top or base plate and again, the table top will lean or wobble.
We know what goes in before the JI name goes on.
