Going Green With Gray Iron
What people often don’t realize about our cast iron table bases is how much recycled material is used in the manufacturing process and our shipping materials. To start with, all of the gray iron we use is recycled. Large ovens, called cupolas, melt down used car engine blocks and other metal scraps, removing impurities and preparing the iron for the next step in the process. This molten metal is then poured into sand castings where it cools and hardens into the desired shape. Because the molds are made of sand they can be broken down and reused as new molds. This allows us to not only reuse the sand, but saves us from acquiring molds in less ecologically friendly materials.

In addition to the recylced gray iron in our cast iron, the steel bolts and center coulumns are also manufactured from recylced steel. Finally our packing material is made from 100% recycled paper.
At JI Bases we believe in exploring and using as many ecologically friendly practices as possible. We believe in starting with a strong foundation, whether it is our manufacturing process or the table bases we make, and for us part of that foundation is giving back to the planet where and when we can.
