Let's Talk Under the Table!

Three Reasons Why the Three-Piece Construction is Worth Your Time

If you buy or design with commercial-grade furniture, you’ve probably experienced assembling a large amount of furniture at a time. If you haven’t, consider how long it takes to assemble a new piece of furniture at home. When that time is multiplied by ten shelves, 50 tables, or 250 chairs, you can see how time-consuming assembly can be. Many furniture manufacturers focus solely on assembly time, such as with the popular two-piece construction table base. But at JI Bases, we know ease of assembly is equally important.

A pedestal table base consists of three main parts: the top plate, the pedestal or column, and the base plate. The Top plate connects the table base to the table top, the column connects the top plate to the base plate, and the base plate provides a stable foundation for the entire base to stand. All three parts are crucial to the overall structure of the table base. If one fails, the entire table base fails.

We spoke to Elite Booth, a furniture manufacturer we work with, to hear why they prefer a three-piece JI Base.

1. Cast Iron Top Plates

The two-piece construction table base still has three parts; however, two parts are welded together to make one. With two pieces already attached, it seems ideal for projects of a larger scale. But there are some drawbacks to consider. Steel top plates bend, warping the table alignment and stability. For spot-welded table bases, if just one spot breaks, you need to replace the whole part! This adds up when table bases are damaged in transit or customer use.

All our pedestal bases have cast iron top plates that will never bend or flex. And they're covered by our lifetime guarantee!

2. Quick Assembly

The two-piece construction is typically marketed as a “labor saver.” With two pieces already attached, this thought process makes sense. But how much time is saved? With a three-piece construction such as ours, part of the assembly process is running a rod or bolt through the top plate. While a two-piece construction may relieve this task, many two-piece constructions often require buyers to self-install the glides. This extra task negates the time saved! Not only is the JI Base easy and quick to assemble but our pedestal bases also come with glides pre-installed for ease of assembly. Don’t take our word for it—see for yourself!

3. Strong Foundation

A commercial-grade table base needs to be durable and sturdy to withstand high traffic and use. As we know, steel bends and flexes. Many two-piece constructions have top plates with a small reach that can’t properly support larger table tops. At JI Bases, we offer multiple top plate sizes depending on your table top. Our team of table base experts considers your table top dimensions and weight to recommend the best fit to support your design.

So why do customers prefer our three-piece construction? Our pedestal bases are equipped with sturdy cast iron top plates, assembled in under a minute, and capable of giving proper table top support.
