Let's Talk Under the Table!

Pair your Tabletops with the Proper Bases

JI Bases has a quick fix for those who want the proper-sized table base to give the tabletop stability and high-performance durability. Our engineers, over the course of several years, have diligently put together a guide to help you decide which table bases will deliver “the solid foundation” that JI Bases is known for around the world.

Choosing a table base can be complex. With our wide table base selection and the customer service we provide, the process is almost enjoyable. At JI Bases, we consider the height, weight, and size of your tabletop and match them with an appropriate table base. You may already have a table base in mind—but are you certain it will support your top? Make sure with a quick call with our customer service team at (888) 792-2275. We take various factors into consideration when pairing table tops with table bases:

The Height

How high do you want to make your tables? If you plan to have tall tables (bar height), anticipate whether people will stand, or sit on barstools/chairs. These tops have to have a wide enough base plate (the part on the floor) and top plate (the part that connects to the tabletop) to counterbalance the top, so it needs to be wide enough to support it solidly. Too small, and the table can become tipsy in a hurry.

Each community has different requirements; make sure you allow enough space, height, and installation room to also accommodate wheelchairs, etc. for differently-abled individuals. JI Bases has ADA recommendations for “end bases” that make this an easier task.

Table Base Dimensions

For most of the standard installations, JI Bases has a base that will fit your needs. However, you need to consider the weight and size of your top to ensure that the general weight of your table base is solid enough to withstand “outside influences.”

Have you ever noticed how many people get up by pressing down on the table and using it as support? This day-to-day stress and added pressure can make stamped steel top plates flex and bend. A cast iron top plate, on the other hand, will stand up tall even under duress. Top plates are not "one size fits all." This thought process threatens the stability and durability of your tables.

Some base manufacturers only offer one size of stamped steel top plate. Here at JI Bases, we know that’s not enough. We offer three different sizes of solid cast iron top plates (13”, 17”, and 24”) to help offset the size differences and ensure a solid top.

If you use a specialty top—say a stone material—you will also need a sub-top, the installation of the table base screws into the top material. This can affect the overall weight. We encourage you to call us for recommendations before you order to save time and headaches.

At JI Bases, we believe that table bases should be durable, strong, and high-quality. Table bases should be made so they will last for a long time. Our standard of quality is unmatched—and we take pride in delivering a performance level that sets itself apart from the rest.

We offer a lifetime guarantee on our cast iron table bases and a 5-year guarantee on our stainless-steel bases. Give us a call at (888) 792-2275, and our table base experts will assist with your search for the proper foundation.
